Iko is an IT architect at KPN and is responsible for innovation within the company. He is an open source enthusiast and has 3 years of experience with Puppet and more then 6 years with tools like CFengine. Iko has worked at KPN for 2 years, and before KPN he worked for a 100% uptime mission critical company in the Netherlands.
Iko’s main goal is automating every part of a IT infrastructure, to achieve this he needs the flexibility of open source products. When he was asked to join KPN, he did not realize that he had entered a Microsoft and Oracle house. His first goal was to get open source software on the roadmap of the company. He faced a lot of challenges to reach his goal. After convincing the company to buy Puppet Enterprise and OpenStack, he was responsible for the architecture design. To make Puppet shine, the processes and organization needed to be changed from a silo-based organization to a DevOps organization.
At this moment, Iko is pushing KPN upmarket by using Puppet and OpenStack to deliver complete application-ready clouds. In his speech, he will talk about his experiences; it was a journey where he was knocked down and stood up to get what he wanted.
